- Took big-time investors’ money on condition that she wouldn’t have to reveal how Theranos’ technology worked.
- FDA investigated the company (questions being raised about the tech) and found major inaccuracies. Teranos’ blood testing machine couldn’t give accurate results so Theranos was using traditional testing machines.
- Holmes and Theranos were charged with massive fraud (9 counts of wire fraud + 2 counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud)
- Holmes agreed to give up financial and voting control of the company, paid a $500,000 fine and return 18.9 million shares of Theranos stock. Also can’ be a director or officer of a publicly traded company for 10 years.
- Holmes’ trial is set for March 2021 (might be delayed) and she faces up to 20 years in prison.
